Jason E. Wendover

February 20, 1975 — December 27, 2019

HUBBARDSTON – Jason E. Wendover (Jay), 44, died peacefully on Friday afternoon, December 27, 2019 at his residence with his wife by his side, after a 3-year courageous battle with cancer.

Jay is survived by his loving and devoted wife of five years, Laurie Anne (Teele) Wendover and his four-year-old daughter Ava Lorraine. Jay's motto was Warrior not a Worrier and he was true to those words each and every day. Jay fought with dignity, courage and optimism throughout his illness.

Jay was born in Milan, New York on February 20, 1975, to Oscar and Colleen Wendover of Red Hook, NY. He was a 1994 graduate of Stissing Mountain Junior-Senior High School.  In 1996, he received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia-Greene Community College.

Jay had worked as a corrections officer for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, MA since July 5, 2009. Jay was very well respected and trusted throughout the department. He was a very large presence and everyone wanted him at their side inside the facility.  Jay's heart was even bigger and his caring and commitment to his co-workers, (brother's and sister's) touched everyone, his absence will greatly impact many. The love and outpouring of support that Jay, Laurie and Ava have received from these same people has been incredible and greatly appreciated.

Jay had many hobbies as well. He was a member of the Westminster Rod and Gun Club.  He enjoyed the outdoors, 4-wheeling, dirt biking, riding his motorcycle and fishing. Jay's greatest joy was spending time with his daughter Ava and his wife Laurie. Jay was very thoughtful about the experiences that he and Laurie created for Ava and loved to show her new places. The three of them vacationed as a family, from cruising to visiting new places around the country.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Jay leaves his parents, Oscar and Colleen Wendover of Red Hook, NY, his brother's, Jonathan Wendover of Red Hook, NY, Jesse Wendover of Red Hook, NY and Justin Wendover of Milan, NY, their wives, and several nieces and nephews.
