WINCHENDON – Henry L. “Hank” Doody, 88, of Winchendon, died peacefully Tuesday evening, May 7, 2019 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, with his family at his side.

He was born in Winchendon on May 25, 1930, son of the late Bernard J. and Lorna E. (Joslin) Doody and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.  Hank was a 1948 graduate of Murdock High School and was a graduate of UMASS School of Agriculture in Stockbridge.

Hank was the owner and operator of Doody Vault Company in Winchendon for many years until his retirement.  His passion was farming, cutting hay and working with his farm animals.

Hank served the Town of Winchendon in many capacities and was a former selectman and member of numerous town committees.  Hank loved scouting and was one of the original members of Boy Scout Troop 35.  He was a former scoutmaster and den chief and member of the Star Dusters band.  A former hockey coach at Murdock High School, Hank was also the Zamboni driver.  For several years, Hank was the grand marshal of the annual Memorial Day parade.

He was a member of the United Parish, Eugene M. Connor Post #193 American Legion and was a life member of Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post VFW.  He was one of the oldest living past masters of Artisan Lodge of Masons.  He had been a member of the J-Cee’s and was a former member of the Marine Corps League.

Hank proudly served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Marine Corps.  He had been stationed in Parris Island, SC, Cherry Point, NC, Eltoro, CA, Pohang, Korea and Quantico, VA.  Hank was awarded the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Korean PUC.  He also played in the Marine Corps Band.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Rochelle A (Vaine) Doody; two sons, Eric L. Doody and his wife Wendy of Westminster and David A. Doody of Winchendon; three grandchildren, Alexis, Mitchell and Clayton; a brother, Kenneth Doody of Worcester and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Doody and two sisters, Gwendolyn and Louise.

Funeral services and burial will be private.  There are no calling hours.
