Frank G. Avery

October 4, 1940 — September 26, 2020

FITCHBURG – Frank G. Avery, 79, of 29 Merriam Parkway, died Saturday, September 26, 2020 in UMASS Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester.

He was born in Boston on October 4, 1940, son of the late Frank G. and Elizabeth (Conroy) Avery and grew up in Connecticut, graduating from Windham High School.  Frank proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy.  His service as an aviation antisubmarine warfare specialist included patrols during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  He also crewed the last active duty Naval blimp.  While doing so, the crew accidentally dropped water ballast on a Hollywood movie star, that most likely disturbed her very much.

Frank had successfully owned and operated Coin Up Laundry in Weymouth and Frank’s Appliance Sales.  Frank was always an exceptional hard worker from his early years working in the tobacco fields of Connecticut with his sister and father to countless demanding jobs throughout his life.  He also enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was building houses, fixing electronic equipment or fixing a toy for his children.  He was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.  A former resident of the Whitman Hansen area, he later lived for ten years in Bedford, and had most recently lived in Hubbardston and Fitchburg.  One of Frank’s most endearing attributes was his handsome bright smile and ability to engage everyone in conversation on subjects they enjoyed.

He leaves six children, Dierdre, Deborah, Denise, Frank Avery Jr, Sean and Lauren; two brothers, Gerald and Charles and a sister, Patricia Morrissey.
