WINCHENDON - Claire J. (Plante) Johnson, 83, of 599 Central Street, died peacefully Friday evening, January 27, 2017 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, with her family at her side.

She was born in Winchendon on December 1, 1933, daughter of the late George E. and Josephine (Girouard) Plante and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon.

Claire had worked at Winchendon Furniture Company and the former George E. Bent Furniture Company, Gardner as a furniture packer.  Her most recent employment was at Digital in Westminster, where she worked as a receiver, software and built computers, until her retirement.

Claire was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.  She enjoyed baking and did so for all occasions.  She made cookies and cupcakes for CCD, for the church Strawberry Festival and Fall Festival.  Claire was known for her Passover Cake, to all who knew her..  She was fond of nature and kept all of her family friends and the sickly in her prayers.  She was known as a prayer warrior.  Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with family.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, Richard O. Johnson; three children, Michael J. Johnson of Winchendon, Cathie A. Marks and her husband John of Flagstaff, AZ and Richard J. Johnson and his wife Christine of Dracut; her brothers and sisters, Arthur G. Plante, Anita F. Duplease, Florence T. Plante, Walter A. Plante, Francis E. Plante, Eugene P. Plante, Alice E. Tousignant and Beatrice M. Morgan; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  A brother, Maurice Z. Plante and a sister, Antoinette Plante, preceded her in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 11 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 5 to 7 P.M.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and Cemetery Renovation Fund, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.
