Willard McKinstry White

Willard McKinstry White, affectionately known as Will, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026. Born in Winchendon, Massachusetts on September 11, 1952, Willard's life was characterized by a deep love for technology, a drive for excellence, and a heart full of compassion. His journey from his birthplace to his long-time residence in Athol, Massachusetts, was guided by his unending curiosity and the desire to make a difference in the world through the power of technology.

Willard was a stalwart in the field of computer engineering, dedicating an impressive 45 years of his life to this passion. His remarkable journey began at Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), moved through Hewlett-Packard (HP), and culminated at EMC, where his innovative contributions left a lasting imprint. Willard was more than just a computer engineer; he was a mentor, a guide, and a beacon of inspiration. His dedication to his profession was only rivalled by his love for his wife, Lee White, who survives him. Willard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary White.

Despite his professional accomplishments, Willard's most cherished moments were those spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Jason White of Westminster, MA; his daughter, Jessica Bergeron of Baldwinville, MA; and his four stepchildren, Jennifer Gurganus of Petersham MA, Kelly-Marie Angell of the UK, Jeremy S. Angell of Albany Township Maine and Joshua S. Angell of Maine; and multiple grandchildren and one great-grandaughter. Will is also survived by his three sisters, Julia White Cardinal, Martha Winnefred (Winnie) Morgan and her husband Scott Morgan, and Rosemary White along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

His joyous laughter, keen intellect, and warm heart will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched. His committal service will be on Monday Aug 17th at 11 AM at Riverside Cemetery, 50 Glenallen Street in Winchendon, Massachusetts.
