Stephen Lawrence Marsh

July 22, 1959 — August 3, 2025

Ashburnham

Stephen Lawrence Marsh, 66, of Ashburnham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, following a brief illness. Born and raised in Fitchburg, Steve was the son of the late Sidney Marsh Jr. and Claire Marsh (Lomme). He cherished his upbringing in the city and carried many fond memories of his time there throughout his life.

Steve is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ellen Drew Marsh (Coombs), with whom he recently celebrated a milestone anniversary. He was the proud father of his three children: Kristen Aiesi and her husband, Michael of Ware; Katherine Marsh; and Timothy Marsh of Gardner. He was also the loving grandfather to Brady and Lia Aiesi.

The youngest of four, Steve leaves behind his three siblings: Thomas Marsh, Michael Marsh, and his wife Sally, and Patricia Marsh, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School, graduating in 1977, and later Mount Wachusett Community College. He went on to build a successful career in SAP cybersecurity, working at Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Bose, and most recently, Thermo Fisher Scientific, before retiring in 2020.

Steve loved working in his yard with his tractor, relaxing on the beaches of New Hampshire, and cheering on Boston sports teams. A lifelong fan of rock music, he found joy in its rhythm and energy. For the past 40 years, Steve made his home on Lake Watatic, where he created countless cherished memories with family and neighbors.

He will be remembered for his generosity, quick wit, and unwavering sense of humor, which he maintained until the very end.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Slattery’s Restaurant in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Steve’s family warmly invites you to join us in sharing memories, photos, and inside jokes as we gather to celebrate his life and legacy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ahimsa Haven Animal Rescue, the shelter where Steve adopted his two cherished cats—a cause close to his heart.

“The song is ended, but the melody lingers on.”
