Shelly Newton

February 19, 1965 — July 15, 2025

Winchendon

Shelly (Stowell) Newton, a beloved nana, mother, wife, coach, and spirited hockey fan, passed away peacefully in her home. Born in Keene, New Hampshire to William and Nancy (Florence) Stowell, Shelly grew up with a zest for life that never dimmed. She graduated from Murdock High School, Class of 1983, and went on to build a life rooted in love, laughter, and fierce devotion.

Shelly married her soulmate, Douglas Newton, and together they raised four children who were the center of her world. She is predeceased by her youngest son, Andrew; her parents, William and Nancy; her sister Diana; and her brother Bill. She is survived by her sister Karen Stowell Trombly, who shared a lifelong bond of love and laughter with Shelly.

Shelly leaves behind her husband Douglas; her children Douglas Newton Jr. and his husband Lucas of New York City, Nicholas Newton and his wife Tiffany of Winchendon, MA (their children Piper, Wesley, Thea & Iris), and Sonya Newton and her husband Matthew Smith of Lancaster, MA. Her legacy also lives on through her cherished nieces, nephews, and even her adored grand-dogs.

Shelly’s heart was as generous as it was bold. She was the first to offer help when someone was in need—whether it was a warm meal, a thoughtful gift, or simply her time and presence. Her home was a haven to many, and her kindness radiated through every gesture, big or small. She gave freely and loved fiercely, always putting others before herself.

Her passions were as colorful and joyful as her personality. She loved cooking for her family, collecting clowns and festive Santas, and diving into competitive games with unmatched enthusiasm. But it was in the stands—whether at hockey games or cheer competitions—where Shelly truly came alive. Her rowdy cheering, infectious laughter, and signature cowbell rang out with pride every time her children hit the ice or the field. She coached her daughter’s softball team with the same fiery spirit and never missed a chance to celebrate her family's milestones, big or small.

Her warmth, humor, and unwavering support touched everyone who knew her well. Shelly’s memory will forever echo in our hearts—like the cowbell she rang with joy and love.
