Ruth R. White

GARDNER - Ruth R. White, 87, of 40 Bond Street, died Friday morning, October 14th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner. She was born in Gardner on February 28,1918, the daughter of Roy B. and Elizabeth (Hanson) Roundy and spent her early childhood in Vermont. She returned to Gardner and lived here the rest of her life, graduating from Gardner High School in 1936. Ruth was a clerk in the jewelry and cosmetic department of the former Parke Snows Department Store and then worked for 27 years as a teller at the former First National Bank. She later worked for a year at the Gardner Police Department and then as a school crossing guard. She was a lifelong member of Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, where she was active in many leadership capacities. She was a member of Gardner Republican Committee, the Diapaison Club and the Rebekka Lodge of the IOOF. She was a devoted caregiver to family and friends. An accomplished musician, Ruth loved writing, music, and collectibles. Her husband of 47 years, Roger V. White, died in 2000. She leaves two sons, Ronald Toothaker White of Gardner and Roger B. White of Finksburg, MD.; one brother, Roy E. Roundy of Reno, NV.; a sister, Alice N. Parker of Baldwinville; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. A grandson, Randy Toothaker and a great granddaughter, Emily K. White, predeceased her. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday, October 18th in the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, 161 Chestnut Street. The Rev. Stacey Lanier and the Rev. Dr. R. Gary Heikkila will officiate. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton. Calling hours in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon will be 6-8 P.M. Monday, October 17th.
