Robert “Bob” Wesley Salo
Son of Harvey and Avis (Walcott) Salo.
Beloved husband, father, and grandfather “Papa” passed unexpectedly on June 17th 2025.
Bob was a dedicated public servant, serving his hometown of Ashburnham as a Firefighter/Emt for 35 years, retiring at the rank of Battalion Chief. Bob spent many years teaching about safety and fire prevention to many students in the school district. Bob served on the fire department alongside his wife Denise and his children Stacy, Jeremy, and daughter in-law Rebekah.
Bob was a graduate of Oakmont Regional High School, and attended Mount Wachusett Community College. He was a devoted family man that enjoyed attending school functions, sports games, and dance recitals for his children and grandchildren. He was passionate about baseball and had an extensive card collection. He coached several little league teams. His favorite teams included the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Along with baseball, Bob was a football fan with his favorite being the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a fan of the Three Stooges and was always prepared with a one line quote. He enjoyed traveling to various beaches in Maine.
Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years Denise (Rocheleau) Salo, his Daughter Stacy Lapierre and husband Matthew, and his Son Jeremy Salo and wife Rebekah. His sisters Geraldine, Louise, and Carolyn. His grandchildren Kayleigh, Bryce, James, Evelyn, Wesley, Silas, and Grace. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Avis.
Calling hours will be at Stone-Ladeau funeral home, 343 Central Street Winchendon MA on Wednesday June 25th, 2025. A walkthrough of uniformed firefighters will start at 9:30am, with regular calling hours from 10:00-12:00. A brief service will be held at the funeral home followed by procession and service at New Cemetery in Ashburnham.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Gordon E. Erickson Memorial Fire/Rescue Foundation, 99 Central Street Ashburnham MA.
