Our beloved mother, Minerva (Mendez) Smith, 65, of Winchendon, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 17th, 2026. She was surrounded by the love of her family.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother (Grandma Mimi), Aunt (Titi Velva) and friend. She lived a life full of compassion, love, loyalty and laughter. She leaves behind a light that will never go out in the hearts of those she loved. Minerva was the cherished daughter of the late Jesus Manual Mendez and Petra R. Mendez. She is survived by her beautiful children, Minerva Tania (Chad) Pasakinskas; Jeanette (Josh) Ramos-Smith; Matt (Amy) Smith; Sean (Sam) Smith; Aleta (Matt) Smith; Luna (Bjorn) Smith; August Smith; Sheldon Smith and their father Calvin. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Treyton, Mason, Tynin, Maya, Ayvah, Lyla, Lilian, Tomy, Alivia and Layla, along with many wonderful and caring aunt, uncles, sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She worked diligently as a registrar assistant at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where her commitment and kindness left a lasting impression for all who knew her. Later she embraced the role of full-time stay-at-home mom making sure her children were filled with an abundance of love, laughter, support and discipline.
Minerva had so many passions in life. She often expressed herself through her artwork, singing, dancing and crocheting. She loved staying active through workouts, martial arts, and nature walks. Her green thumb was evident in the flourishing pool size garden she tended to with such passion and care. She loved cooking up delicious Spanish food from the foods from her garden. It was her peace of serenity. More than anything, she loved being with her grandchildren; they were her greatest joy.
Minerva leaves behind a world made brighter by her presence, and a village of people forever grateful for the time they shared with her. We hold her close knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 3rd from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Smith Hill Tavern in Ashby, Massachusetts.
