ORANGE – Michael R. Goguen, 53, of Orange, died peacefully Sunday morning, September 18 th , in the West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital, after a courageous fight from a service connected illness.

Michael was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on August 1, 1958. He grew up in Gardner and Athol and graduated from Athol High School in 1976.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force after his graduation in 1976 and honorably served until his illness for 15 years. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Force Achievement Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon and Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon.

Michael enjoyed skydiving, white water rafting, skiing and was a black belt karate instructor.

He leaves his parents, William and Kathleen Hunt of Winchendon, his sister Debbie Phillips of Ray City, GA; his brother Daniel Hunt and wife Brenda of FL; his brother William Hunt and his companion Kimberly Plourde of Leominster and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 23rd at 12 Noon in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. The Rev. David R. Cote will officiate.

Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
