Mary Ann, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 4, 2025, at the age of 80.
She was born in Ayer, MA, on July 2, 1944. Mary Ann was known for her kindness, generosity, and her love for her family. She had a unique gift with her warm-hearted personality for making friends everywhere she went. Mary Ann graduated from high school as class valedictorian from Westford High Academy.
Mary Ann was a very career-driven individual, and she succeeded at a time when very few women were recognized for their accomplishments. Mary Ann broke through the glass ceiling, paving the way for future women to succeed in the workforce. Following in her mother's footsteps, she began her career with the U.S. Government at Lincoln Labs. She furthered her career, receiving many awards. For over 20 plus years, she was dedicated and passionate about serving the U.S. Soldiers during Vietnam and Desert Storm. Following that, she worked for the Department of the Interior, National Park Service. She received recognition for her many accomplishments throughout her career. To name a few, she received the Superior Civilian Service Award, she graduated from the Executive Potential Program, and retired with 37 years of loyal service to the U.S. Government.
Mary Ann had a passion for travel and took great pride in her navigational skills. She was famous for her shortcuts. During her travels, she enjoyed listening to her favorite music. She also loved going to concerts and playing card games such as Cribbage and Canasta. Additionally, she looked forward to going on several cruises per year and taking frequent trips to casinos. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family.
She leaves behind her best friend of 53 years, her husband Ted. She also leaves behind her four children, daughter Karen St. Cyr and husband Larry of Palmetto, FL, son Arthur Graustein and his fiancée Nicole Mahoney of Fitchburg, MA, daughter Carolyn Flagg and husband Ricky of Baldwinville, MA, and son Thomas Graustein and his wife Jeanette of Dudley, MA. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Sara Morey-Foyle, Nicholas Scott, Matthew Flagg, and Kyra Graustein.
She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Costello and Ellen Damon, her brothers, Doug Deware and Bill Deware, and her sisters, Carol Desrosiers and Kathleen O’Flahaven.
Calling hours will be held at Stone Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA on Monday, June 9th, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel on Tuesday June 10th at 11:00 a.m., 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association in her memory.
