Maija Mard

May 12, 1946 — May 17, 2026

Troy, NH

Maija Mard, born on May 12, 1946, in the serene town of Imatra, Finland, was a beacon of love, dedication, humor, and humility. She was a woman who lived her life to the fullest, creating a vibrant tapestry of experiences and relationships that touched many hearts. She was blessed with the gift of making people feel special, and she used it generously, both in her personal interactions and in her professional life as a beloved hairdresser.

From her first steps on American soil in New York City with her mother, to her last residence in Troy, New Hampshire, Maija's journey was nothing short of extraordinary. She held onto her Finnish roots tightly, cherishing her contributions to the Saima Park and the Finlandia Foundation. She was passionate about her photography, often finding joy in creating photo montages adorned with funny captions that brought smiles to many faces. She was not just a hairdresser with 40 years of experience, but a confidante, a friend, and a carrier of stories. Her salon was not just a place of business, but a space of warmth, laughter, and, most of all, human connection.

Maija’s love for her family was unparalleled. Her heart was home to her son, Tuomas and wife Jillian, and daughter Tanja and her sons Clay and Devin McClure along with family in Finland who survive her and her husband of more than 50 years Eeli, her first born son Eero Juhanni and parents, Pauli and Anni Vilpulla, who preceded her in death.

She also had a deep-seated love for travel, having explored diverse cultures and landscapes, from the cobblestone streets of Portugal and Spain to the majestic peaks of Peru. She was a dedicated volunteer at local Finnish events and festivals, intertwining her love for her homeland with her enthusiasm for community service. As Maya Angelou so beautifully said, "I sustain myself with the love of family," and this was certainly true for Maija.

Maija's life was a testament to the fact that the most meaningful lives are those lived in service of others. She was a woman of substance, grace, and undeniable charm. Her memory lives on, not just in the hearts of her loved ones, but in every strand of hair she styled, every photograph she clicked, and every smile she inspired.

As we remember Maija, we invite you to share your memories and photos on her below. Let's celebrate her life, her spirit, and the incredible impact she left on all of us.
