Lorraine A (Gamache) Vaine, born Sept. 27, 1928, passed away peacefully on Aug 6, 2025, after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Maurice & Anna (Chapolonis) Gamache and a long-time resident of Winchendon.
She leaves her husband of 75 years Adelard J. Vaine, four children, Susan Martin-Scott, Richard M Vaine and his wife Gail, David G Vaine and his wife Lynn, and Nancy Monette and her husband Tracy, nine grandchildren, Shawn Martin, Chad Martin, Michael Vaine, Evan Vaine, Bryan Vaine, Jennifer Tyros, Jason Monette, Jessica Monette, and Joshua Monette. Twelve great-grandchildren, one brother, Willian D Gamache, and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her two brothers, Maurice E Gamache and Philip Gamache.
Prior to being married, Lorraine worked as a Telephone Operator in Winchendon and in the cafeteria at Memorial School for several years.
Lorraine enjoyed being outdoors and spent much time in her yard trimming, planting trees and bushes, and weeding. She loved bike riding and rode faithfully until the age of 88. She also enjoyed cross-country skiing for many years and was always excited to go on a long walk, or, as she got older, walk on her treadmill, which she did every day until three months prior to her passing. Lorraine also enjoyed outdoor adventures while traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Nova Scotia, and Florida.
The time she cherished the most however was the time with her family and friends, especially at Silver Sneakers. Lorraine has been a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church since before 1950, and her funeral Mass will be held there on Wednesday, Aug 13th at 12:00 p.m.
Lorraine’s family wishes to thank Autumn Hospice and the Sterling Village Nursing Center for the dedicated care, their compassion, and unconditional love that she received while in their care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winchendon Fire Department and Ambulance Service, who has always been ready to give a helping hand and encouragement in time of need. We thank them for their service.
Stone Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, has been entrusted with Lorraine's care.
