John L. Morris

WINCHENDON – John L. Morris, 75, of 42 Summer Street, died peacefully Tuesday morning, December 15, 2020 in Bay Sate Medical Center, Springfield.

He was born in Gardner on May 30, 1945, son of the late Lawrence E. “Ted” and Alice M. (Bourgault) Morris and was a 1963 graduate of Gardner High School.  John later graduated from Fitchburg State College and earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Assumption College.

A teacher for many years, John began his teaching career at Narragansett Regional High School.  He later taught in the Gardner School system for many years, teaching history, geography and social studies.  He retired at the age of 58.  John was involved with the Gardner High School Band for many years, while as a teacher and later in his retirement and made many trips with the band to Disney World.  He also worked for many years as a bus tour guide for Perri Travel Co. in Ashburnham.

John served on the Board of Registrars for the Town of Winchendon for many years.  He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the Knights of Columbus.  He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.  He and his late wife Kathy made many trips to Ireland and they enjoyed the company of their two dogs, Katie and Molly and spending time at their property in Bourne, MA.

His wife of 44 years, Kathleen A. (Brow) Morris, died in 2015.  He leaves his brothers and sisters, Lawrence E. Morris Jr. and his wife Ann of Leominster, Marie A. Perreault and her husband Jack of Leominster, David J. Morris of Gardner and Alice A. Oravetz and her husband Christopher of Cary, NC; a brother-in-law Richard Brow of NH and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon.  Masks and social distancing are required.

The Mass will be streamed and may be viewed on the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Facebook Page.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to Monadnock Humane Society, 101 W. Swanzey Road, Swanzey, NH 03446.
