John Edward Blomquist

November 14, 1943 — April 11, 2026

Fitchburg

John Edward Blomquist, son of Ellis and Mary (Mager) Blomquist and beloved brother, uncle, and granduncle, passed on April 11, 2026, after a brief illness.

John was active as a millwright, photographer, teacher, and sportsman until injuries suffered in his Army duties in South Vietnam ultimately made him need to retire to his Fitchburg home. He was active there when he could, continuing in photography with the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston, participating in many of their nighttime educational “Star Parties” and using his mechanical talents to help members to build custom articles for their mutual passion. John had some of his images placed on the club’s website.

John was a graduate of Fitchburg High School, Northeastern University, and Fitchburg State University. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Army during the Vietnam conflict. After the service, he worked for many years in the mechanical construction trades on large and small projects in the greater North Worcester County area. Later, John changed careers, serving for many more years as a teacher at the Leominster Trade School.

John is survived by his brother Paul, his two nephews, Dan Blomquist and Terrence Blomquist, his grand nieces and grand nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Mary.
