Our beloved Jean Helen White, born on the 14th of November 1939 in Marlborough, MA, has today, the 12th of June 2026, left us with a treasury of precious memories. Jean, in her 87 years, lived a life that was as vibrant as her spirit. A dedicated and passionate Junior High School teacher by profession, she touched the lives of countless young minds during her tenure at Marlboro Jr High School. She was a beacon of knowledge and wisdom, inspiring innumerable students to learn and grow. Her dedication to education was not confined to the walls of the school, but extended to her community in Athol, where she taught sewing classes to a group of enthusiastic students, fondly known as the "KnitWits".
Jean, a resident of Winchendon, Massachusetts, was a woman of many talents and interests. After her retirement, she actively participated in the Athol Senior Center and the YMCA and volunteered at the library, never missing an opportunity to contribute to her community. But the role she cherished most was that of a grandmother. The sparkle in her eye and the warmth in her heart were never more evident than when she was spending time with her grandchildren. Jean's love for her family and her commitment to her community will always be remembered.
Jean was the beloved mother of Marybeth Hayward and her husband, Skip; Mark White, and his partner, Janet; Patrick White and his wife, Lori; Michael White, Phillip White and his wife, Maria, and Susan Dodge and her partner, Jeff; nine grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Timmy Gilliat and his wife Paula; one sister, Pauline Clark; one sister-in-law, Helene Gilliatt; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Burke White, her parents, Archie and Phyllis Gilliatt; her brother, Frank Gilliatt, and her sister, Patty (Gilliatt) Chagnon.
The graveside service will be held on Thursday, 25 Jun 2026, at 11:00 am at Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake Street, Athol, Massachusetts, 01331. The service will be under the direction of Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St., Winchendon, MA.
We invite you to leave your memories and upload photos of Jean to the memorial page. This will help us all remember the joy and love she brought into our lives.
