Elizabeth A. "Betty" Stone

April 26, 1944 — September 11, 2022

Winchendon

WINCHENDON – Elizabeth A. ‘Betty” Stone, 78, of Winchendon, died peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2022, in the comfort of her home, with her loving family at her side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Betty was born in Gardner on April 26, 1944, daughter of the late Marlen and Lillian (Pszczolowski) Duteau and was a graduate of Gardner High School.  She and her husband had lived in Winchendon since 1969.

Betty was a Winchendon school bus driver for over 30 years for H&W Transportation under the ownership of the late Fred Hardy, whom she referred to as the best boss she ever had.  Family was everything to Betty; she thoroughly enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She always put others first, before the needs of herself.  She enjoyed fishing in her younger years and going to Old Orchard Beach, Maine each summer.

She leaves her husband of 58 years, Kenneth W. Stone; four children, Lisa A. Mutti and husband Rick, Maria E. Knowlton and husband John, Debby L. Smith and husband James and William A. Stone and wife Kristin, all of Winchendon; eleven grandchildren, Andrew and wife Stefanie, Alex, Samantha, Josh, Rebecca, Hollie, Patrick, Haley, Hanna, Hunter and Rhiannon; four great grandchildren, Allison, Willow, Charlie and Halston; two brothers, David Duteau of Leominster and Dickie Duteau of FL; one sister, Maggie Duteau-Wolf of FL and several nieces and nephews.  A great grandson, Benjamin Stone, preceded her in death.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M.  A funeral service will follow Saturday at 1 P.M.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Care Central VNA and Heywood Hospital Oncology Department for their, personal care and devotion to Betty.
