TEMPLETON – Edward F. Hearns, 72, of 15 Willow Trailer Park, Templeton , died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, August 30 th , in Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Worcester on March 26, 1939, son of the late Edward F. and Julia (Daly) Hearns and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He lived in Worcester his entire life until moving to Templeton 18 years ago.

Ed worked as a maintenance engineer at the former Worcester City Hospital, which is now UMASS-Memorial Hospital, for 23 years until his retirement. He was a kind hearted man, who devoted much of his time to civic and charitable causes. He was a member and three time King Lion of the Templeton Lions Club, which honored him with its prestigious Joseph J. Camarda Fellowship Award. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and was one of the commissioners of the Parks and Cemetery and a member of the Friends of the Elderly for the Town of Templeton. Ed was also a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Ed was Past President of Local Union #495 and enjoyed playing Santa Claus during the holidays. He served in the National Guard. Having a passion for boating, he was a former member of Franklin County Boat Club and he enjoyed traveling in this country and overseas with his wife. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, loving father and grandfather to his grandchildren, all of whom he adored.

He leaves his wife of 23 years, Jean A. (Warren) Hearns; six children, Judith Westlake of Tampa, FL, Janice Hagg and her husband Eric of Bayonet Point, FL, James Hearns and his wife Caroline of Spring Hill, FL, Katherine Hearns of Worcester, Karen Rolfe and her husband Martin of Worcester and Mary Cicero of Cherry Valley, MA; one brother Francis Hearns and his wife Jackie of Simi Valley, CA; one sister, Elizabeth Graves and her husband Russell of Holden; 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Thomas Hearns and John Hearns, predeceased him.

The family wishes to express its thanks to the wonderful care given at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, September 3 rd from Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in Holy Cross Church, Lake Avenue, East Templeton. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Templeton.

Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, September 2 nd from 5 to 8 P.M.
