Donald Wayne Shumard, a man of courage, wit, and humility, was born on June 13, 1952, in Moberly, Missouri, and passed away peacefully on November 3, 2026, at the age of 74. Donald was a devoted husband to Carolyn, a loving father to Katriena Welch (husband Mitchell Prive) and Jason Shumard (partner Monica George). He is survived by his brothers- Kenny Shumard (wife Barbara), Mike Shumard (wife Sherri), and Phillip Shumard (wife Jackie). A deeply loving man, he was a natural protector and a beloved uncle figure to generations of family, friends, and neighbors.

Raised in the Christian faith, Donald chose to be baptized by the small community church of Granville, Missouri, a testament to his steadfast dedication to his beliefs. He often spoke of his solitary travels as opportunities for profound conversations with his maker, reflecting the verse from Proverbs 3:6, "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

A devoted, dedicated, and respected Power Generation Specialist, Donald spent much of his career working with telecommunications companies. His knack for solving complex puzzles shone brightly. He traveled to many places from coast to coast and even on some exciting adventures off the coast on ships and dregs. Be it from using a snowmobile and some snow shoes to reach a mountain generator or a boat to sail out to the middle of the ocean for a job on an island, no job was too big or too adventurous for Donald. He would pack his bag and roam wherever he was needed, often blasting Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again."

He proudly served in the Army for 12 years, including three tours in Germany where he discovered his love of German cuisine and beer. This period shaped his life and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience. It was the simple joys that truly defined Donald's life. Whether casting a line in the tranquil waters with family and friends or exploring the open road on scenic trips, he found peace and fulfillment. His harmonica, a constant companion along with his fishing pole, often provided the soundtrack to these adventures, as he penned his own melodies inspired by the landscapes that unfolded before him. He would bring these melodies and adventures home to share with his wife.

Donald’s legacy is one of love and cherished memories, especially those created with his family, who were the center of his world. His humor, warmth, and genuine spirit will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we remember Donald, we invite friends and family to share their memories and upload photos. Let us celebrate a life well-lived and a man who truly made a difference in the lives of those he touched.
