David E. Corey, 85, sadly passed away at his home on May 20, 2026, after a long illness.
He was born in Gardner, MA, on July 20, 1940, the son of the late Alvin L. Corey and Winifred (Parker) (Corey) Shepardson.
Dave was raised by his mother and step-father Lee Shepardson since the age of 5. He leaves his wife Irene (Rota) Corey, his sister Connie White, two sons, Edward Corey and David Corey, and his wife Jody. Step-children Pamela Fisher, Karla Dunchus, and Mike LaFrenier, Wanda Bogan, and her husband Scott. Four grandchildren, Mark Corey and his wife Stephanie, Joel Corey and his wife Audrey, Heather Ronn and her husband Eric, and Kyle Corey and his wife Tara. Great-grandchildren Colton, Ava, Patsy, Camden, Russell, and Rosalie Corey, and Harper Ronn. Step-grandchildren / great-grandchildren Kristen, Erik, Jeffrey, Jacklyn, Leah, Brianna, Jamisyn, Logan, Peyton, Ayda, Jack, Ruby, and Rowan. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Dave was predeceased by his first wife Sandra (Whiting) Corey.
Dave worked at Bryant's Arco, which he later owned and operated for several years until he sold to Cumberland Farms. He then joined his life-long best friend Richard (Red) Tolman at Tolman Construction until his retirement.
Dave served as a firefighter at the Baldwinville Station for 30 years, one of the original founders of the Templeton Rescue Squad, later retiring as Deputy Chief.
He was an avid fan of all New England Sports, enjoyed playing and coaching softball, coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and attending all of his son's and grandchildren's sporting events. He also loved going to Maine, where he enjoyed the ocean
and walking along the beach, and would join in on the Polar Plunge on New Year's Day! Most important of all Dave enjoyed the time he spent with his wonderful blended family.
Calling hours for David will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 2:00- 5:00 pm in the Stone Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA. His funeral will be held in the funeral home on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 10:00 am. Burial to follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Patriots Road, Templeton, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Templeton Firefighters Donation Fund (checks made to the Town of Templeton), or Narragansett Youth Baseball, c/o Nick Smith, 18 Old Athol Road, Templeton, MA 01468, or ALS Research Foundation at als.org.
