Carolyn “Carol” Ann (Dunchus) Caswell, 84 of Westminster, MA, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, after a brief battle with Glioblastoma. Carol is survived by her daughters, Charlene Ann Caswell (Nathaniel Woods) of Lexington, MA, and Cynthia Ruth Caswell Dontje (Terry) of Cranston, RI. Her pride and joy granddaughters, Rebecca and Stella Dontje and Charlotte and Allie Woods; sister Elaine Crump and brother-in-law Stephen Crump, along with many nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Gediminas and Allie (Walkama) Dunchus, husband Donald, brothers William, Richard, Donald, Robert, and sisters Helen and Marion.
Born and raised in Winchendon, MA, Carol was a 1960 graduate of Murdock High School. Carol raised her daughters in Troy, NH, for several years before moving with her family to Westminster, MA. After working for a few years at Independent Lock, Carol was “talked into” going to nursing school by a co-worker. Carol graduated from Gardner State Hospital Nursing School in 1966. Over the years of her career as a nurse, Carol worked at state hospitals, nursing homes, and many years doing private duty nursing overnight shifts so she could be home for her daughters while they were in school. She retired from over a forty-year career in nursing at the Fernald School.
Carol was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. She never missed watching a game on TV, attending a few games in person, and was elated to witness them win four World Series. Her other favorite hobbies included going to casinos with her daughters, fishing, cooking delicious food, gardening, bingo, family cookouts, cribbage tournaments, Circle of Artists, and doing volunteer work at the Westminster Baptist Church. While having a great time doing all this, Carol had one of the best comedic personalities you could ever meet. To her core, she could take a negative and make it into a positive with her humor. Carol was a lover of animals and owned many over the years. Later in life, she enjoyed visiting with all of her daughters’ pets and babysitting them.
When Carol turned 80, her daughters asked her where she wanted to go celebrate her birthday - anywhere in the world. Being a lover of Elvis, she wanted to go to Graceland. And that we did, and it was one of her most favorite trips ever. Besides Graceland, Carol was fortunate to travel to Bermuda, Chatham, Las Vegas, and several countries in Europe on an epic trip with her close friends Donna and Esther in 2007.
