It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arthur H. Murphy, born on February 3, 1942, in Winchendon, Massachusetts, who passed away on November 7, 2025. He grew up in Winchendon and was a graduate of Murdock High School, The Class of 1960. He played football and baseball while establishing his reputation as a great dancer.
After high school his greatest honor was serving as a Lance Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-1963. “Semper Fi” was forever tattooed on his arm. He moved to Gardner and worked at Simplex Time Recorder for 18 years. During this time he was quite active in the football boosters club and the Polish American Club. He enjoyed playing many years in the Gardner Men's Softball League as a tough and reliable catcher. Arthur also worked as an independent drywall contractor. All these associations offered him the opportunity to make many friends who share memories of his generosity, kindness, and support.
Arthur moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he was highly regarded in his community as a dedicated taxi driver. His kind nature and steadfast work ethic were appreciated by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. The Catholic faith he grew up with was transported with his move. He volunteered every Sunday and at many events supporting St. Thomas. He brought his grandson, Conor, with him and ensured the faith would be strong in him.
Growing up, Arthur had a deep love for his family and friends. He is survived by his seven siblings: Francis, John, Sheila, Lawrence, Katherine, James, and Paul.. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Rachel Murphy (Finn). He leaves his son, Sean, two grandsons, Conor and Liam, and three great-grandchildren. Arthur's memory will be cherished by all who knew him for his warm heart, lively spirit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
