Alfred "Chuck" May, Jr.

January 20, 1945 — March 9, 2026

Winchendon

Alfred "Chuck" May, affectionately known as Chuckie, passed away in his home on the 9th of March, 2026. Born on the 20th of January, 1945, in Winchendon, MA, Chuck spent his entire life in the town. He was a loyal son of Winchendon, a reliable friend, and a steadfast caretaker of his elderly parents and cherished camp.

Chuck spent his teen years working in the family sawmill alongside his father and uncle, progressing to his uncle's Texaco station in his late teens then a building supply store where his outstanding work performance won him a paid trip to Puerto Rico. He spent the remainder of his working years at the American Legion in Winchendon, retiring in 2004 as a maintenance tech. Chuckie enjoyed spending his Saturday afternoons taking his two daughters, Kim and Amy, niece Wendy, and nephew Brian on the snowmobile and sled to his camp, a place that held a special place in his heart. As a humble man, he found personal satisfaction in quietly doing things for others around camp, never needing recognition. Dad loved telling his daughters stories about the time he did this or that and reminiscing with camp family about stories of yesteryear. Chuckie would remember vast details and facts about the stories he told. Dad loved to spend Sunday afternoons cooking boiled dinners or steaks on the grill proceeded by a nap while taking care of his daughters on weekends in their younger years. In Chuckie's younger years, he was an active member of the Ridge Runners snowmobile club and enjoyed snowmobile trips to New Hampshire and Maine or trips to the Winchendon Rod and Gun Club. Chuckie also had a passion for repurposing metal, wood, and anything in between, a testament to his thrifty nature and upbringing.

What mattered most to Chuckie was his family. He was a devoted father supporting his daughters in their endeavors and grandfather who cherished spending time with his grandsons telling stories of his childhood and making or fixing projects. He enjoyed puttering around his home, raking leaves and pine needles at camp and the Cape, spending time grooming the beach at camp, and having a cigarette under the beach pine tree while talking with friends. Chuckie also traveled to TN with his mother and found more puttering opportunities at his daughter Kim's home. Time spent telling stories around the campfires or under the beach pine tree with lifelong, multigenerational camp family was dearly treasured as was passing out dum-dum lollipops to the children at camp. He was a dedicated caregiver for both his mother and father in their final years, spending every evening with his mother at the nursing home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred C. May Sr. and Lucille V. (Burgess) May, his brother John May, and his granddaughter Alexandria E. Bradley. He is survived by his two daughters Kim Bradley of Springfield, TN and Amy Bogue of S. Chatham, MA, his grandsons Forrest (Bethany) Bogue of San Diego CA, Brian Bogue (partner Katherine Valenzuela) of Warwick RI and their son-Chuckie's great-grandson, Benjamin, and grandson Cameron Bradley of Springfield, TN, his sister Jean LaValley of West Palm, FL, sister-in-law Jeanne May of Gardner, MA, many nieces, nephews, and extended family, and his grand-dog Buddy.
